HomeBudget CFO is a pay-to-pay budgeting plugin for Obsidian. It answers one question each payday: how much is actually safe to spend?
It is built to be private: your data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stored locally, with no bank logins, no cloud and no AI reading your money.
HomeBudget CFO is coming soon, free and open source. The code goes public on release day.
Next up in the workshop: flex budgeting. A budget that bends without breaking: one flexible plan, viewed several ways, built on the categories you already track.
What it does
- Pay-to-pay, not month-to-month: plan between paychecks, with a visual pay calendar
- Bills that work like to-dos: marking one paid logs the transaction, and a partial payment rolls the rest onto your own schedule
- Time tracking and pay estimates: clock in and out, and the estimate of gross and take-home pay gets more accurate each payday
- A real transaction register: one view per account, a master view, and categories
- Encrypted and private: AES-256-GCM, stored locally, no bank logins, no cloud
- Backup and export in a simple, readable format
